while we were in
Marrakesh we took a field trip to the atlas mountains. we hiked up the mountainside outside a very small village to
mr.
brahm's (pictured above) house. the only way to get there is by foot or donkey. when i asked him how long his family had lived there, he said well over one hundred years in the same house. his wife cooked us lunch and he made us pot after pot of mint tea. we ate everything with our hands and it was beyond delicious. everything is grown, raised, butchered, processed and prepared there just as it has been for centuries. there is even a hand cranked stone mill for grinding the wheat to make bread and couscous. the room we ate in was just above where the animals slept.
mr brahm didn't speak a word of
english, but that
didn't stop him from chatting away to
mitch who at one point looked
mr.
brahm in the eye and said "look, if you want us to leave, you can just tell me." it totally took me by surprise and was
soooooo funny.
